Miguelli

Have I got a treat for you this week!!

Miguelli.

Remember that name cause you're gonna be hearing a lot more from them VERY soon.

Miguelli is Munyungo Jackson (Percussion), Brian Krinek (Saxophone), Toni Peete (Vocals), Giovanna Imbesi (Keyboards), and Miguelli (Guitar, Vocals, Keyboards) and are described as "Music that enriches the soul". I could not agree more.

I have only just recently had the pleasure of hearing Miguelli, but they are in my top bands of the year. I heard their cover of The Eagles "One Of These Nights" and mere seconds into the track, my jaw dropped and hit the floor. It was unfuckingbelieveable! I loved it, and I want you all to hear them.

The most recent single "Twirl" on iTunes and I greedily snapped it up (and so should you!)
http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/twirl/id295531782?i=295531803 #iTunes.

I understand that there is a full length CD in the pipeline and I can't wait.

Here is a link which will allow you to listen to 3 brilliant songs. (Twirl, One Of These Nights and Beast Of Burden) http://www.reverbnation.com/artist/artist_songs/542163

Here is their version of Inner City Blues (Makes Me Wanna Holler). It's amazing.

For more information and for more GOODTUNES, please visit the band's MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/miguellimusic, follow them on Twitter at https://twitter.com/miguellimusic#, and check them out on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Miguelli/49653072895?ref=ts.

Enjoy!

O Children "O Children"

I've been listening to a band called "O Children" this past week and I'm really digging them. So much so, that I'm gonna reach out to the band and tell them I love them!

They are a brooding and haunting post-punk pop band with deep intense melodies and a "remarkable front-man in the shape of a giant male Grace Jones". I don't wanna start throwing around comparisons, but close your eyes and think "The Church" mixed with a bit of "Joy Division".

Here are 3 of their songs that I think you'll like:

"Dead Disco Dancer"

"Ruins"

Lastly, here is the song "Don't Dig". It closes their disc PERFECTLY, and I think it's my favorite so far.

I understand that they toured with Gary Numan earlier this year, so if you get the opportunity, GO SEE THEM LIVE!

As always, for more information, visit the band's webpages:
Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/ochildren
MySpace - http://www.myspace.com/ochildren

The disc comes out in the US on 10/26/10, so pick it up!!

The Knife "Marble House"

Today's video is yet another one of my favorite songs. It's called "Marble House", and I've posted the live version for your AV enjoyment. Rather than ramble on about it, I'll just let you check it out.

As always, I hope you enjoy this bit as much as I do.

The Knife "Heartbeats"

Hi!

Today's track from The Knife is called "Heartbeats". It's been covered by José González, Scala & Kolacny Brothers, Bombs and Bottles and probably others.

"Heartbeats" was one of the first songs I heard from The Knife and I remember thinking. Is this Bjork? No, Kate Bush? No, it's THE KNIFE, and I've been hooked ever since.

The Knife "You Take My Breath Away"

Today's video is called "You Take My Breath Away" and the video is AWESOME. It's one of the best 80's throwbacks I've seen in a while.

Enjoy!

The Knife "Pass This On"

Have you heard of The Knife??? If not, you're in for a treat.

The group consists of siblings Karin Dreijer Andersson (also of Fever Ray) and Olof Dreijer and they crank out some dark, yet catchy pop songs. Over the next week, I'm gonna post a song or two of theirs each day for you to check out.

Let's start with one of my favorites. This song is called "Pass This On" (and NOT "I'm in love with your brother" as people previously thought).

Check it out. I hope you dig it as much as I do.

The Charter for Compassion

It was never my intent to get political on this blog, but with the recent rash of suicides, I thought I would post this video, and share the info below with everyone I could.

xo

The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the center of our world and put another there, and to honor the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and respect.

It is also necessary in both public and private life to refrain consistently and emphatically from inflicting pain. To act or speak violently out of spite, chauvinism, or self-interest, to impoverish, exploit or deny basic rights to anybody, and to incite hatred by denigrating others, even our enemies, is a denial of our common humanity. We acknowledge that we have failed to live compassionately and that some have even increased the sum of human misery in the name of religion.

We therefore call upon all men and women ~ to restore compassion to the center of morality and religion ~ to return to the ancient principle that any interpretation of scripture that breeds violence, hatred or disdain is illegitimate ~ to ensure that youth are given accurate and respectful information about other traditions, religions and cultures ~ to encourage a positive appreciation of cultural and religious diversity ~ to cultivate an informed empathy with the suffering of all human beings, even those regarded as enemies.

We urgently need to make compassion a clear, luminous and dynamic force in our polarized world. Rooted in a principled determination to transcend selfishness, compassion can break down political, dogmatic, ideological and religious boundaries. Born of our deep interdependence, compassion is essential to human relationships and to a fulfilled humanity. It is the path to enlightenment, and indispensable to the creation of a just economy and a peaceful global community.
